I am American, I am Ghanaian: Where do I stand in the reparations conversation?
I say those two sentences with pride, but also with a heaviness that is difficult to explain. Somewhere between those identities is an ocean, and that ocean carries memory. It carries the memory of people who crossed it unwillingly, people who did not pack bags, apply for visas, or choose another country in search of opportunity.
